Many of us see all these fabulous woman on YouTube with these HUGE makeup collections. These woman seem to have every color of lipstick out there and piles of stuff. Let's be real, it takes YEARS! to get that much crap and most of us do not need that much stuff, however us girls need options! First of all I would get your everyday makeup foundation, brows, favorite blush, mascara and a nice lip color or gloss, concealer, these really are the "backbone" and core of your makeup collection. You also do not need to spend an arm and a leg on makeup product to have a great look. If you watch any Youtube or are Instagram many of the looks are created using some drug store products. Also price is not everything. I have spent a pretty penny on some items only to discover that some fora fraction of the cost works even better. So here are my tips for building your makeup collection.
1. Find out what kind of skin you have. Are you Oily, Dry or a combo. I have some parts of me that are very Oily so I stay away from foundations that give that "dewy look" and I also use primers that are matte based. Something I have also learned over time moisturize your face, even if you are oily.
2. Know your undertones. Some of us are more on the cooler side meaning that we have more pinky skin or our under eye is purple like we have been punched in the face. You also could be to red and have some sort of skin irritation where you are always looking like you ran a marathon. However you could also have more of a yellow base skin type. Knowing this about your skin will help you match your foundation and also chose the right concealer for your skin tone and type.
3. Budget. This is important when trying to build a good makeup collection. How much do you feel like you could spend.... some people may say anything over 100.00 is to much, which is fine. I myself don't really have a budget, which I should. I do not believe you need to break the bank to get great stuff.
4. What kind of look are you going for? are you someone who wants to wear a different makeup look every single day and wants to try funky bright colors or are you someone who wants to wear makeup without looking like you are wearing makeup.
5. Do not buy anything you do not know how to use. I only say this because if your not comfortable using something if you are anything like me then you most likely will end up never using it. These can be things like a heated eye lash curler... sounds amazing and kinda cool and it is but if you don't feel comfortable using it or want to put the time into practicing then save your self the money.
6. Shop the sales. When building your make up collection shop when things are on sale or at a discount. If its a fun new lipstick color you want to try many stores these days do buy 1 get 1 so if you waited for a sale you could get another lip stick free. Also when there is something new that I am DYING to try at the drug store I got and find my ass a coupon. I have gotten things dirt cheap before and they are awesome! I also didn't feel bad about spending the money to get them.
7. If you are unsure about how to put on makeup my biggest tip is to watch Youtube or to pay someone to teach you. Many of us do not know how or what to enhance to look our best. I can tell you that many of us hair and make up people really didn't know either until we were educated and PRACTICED!
8. Don't give up. just because your makeup comes out a little on the scary side don't give up on doing it. It took my years to get a good winged liner and I still fuck up! You just need to practice.... mostly practice blending your lines in your shadow, contour and blush. HOLY FUCK do I hate when people have that line on there jaw line. They look stupid and lay of the fucking bronzer!
9. Buy brushes. You can get a pretty good set that will last you for 20 bucks. I have brushes from 8 years ago that are my favorites to this day. Also make sure to take care of them this includes washing them!
10. Have some fun. Makeup is supposed to be fun. Keep in mind that you are beautiful and have a good time. I wore neon pink eye shadow the other day... I LOVE IT and that was all that mattered.
Some of my favorite places to get make are ULTA, Rite Aid, CVS, Walmart, Target, http://www.bhcosmetics.com
